What to do if your computer doesn’t start!!!!!
Computer is now an inseparable part of our life. Sometimes we fall in troubles with our computer. May it be software problems or hardware problems. If it is software problems we some times can solve these problems. But when it is problems related to hardware, We very often go to the expert technician who are excels in hardware.
Today I am gonna show you how you can solve problems when your computer doesn't start. This obviously a hardware problem.
Sometimes it may happens for some certain software. But ten to one it is a hardware problem. This kind of problems may be the following
- My computer doesn't start/turn on.
- My computer doesn't take boot.
- My computer doesn't load operating systems.
- My computer takes automatically restarts sometimes when working on.
- My computer becomes hang.
Simple apparatus to maintain your computer:
To open your pc’s hardware functions you should collect the following things for your own.

External Problems Checking:
The first thing you need to do is that Check your PC externally. Don’t try to turn on your computer at this stages. You should follow these steps:1. Be sure that you power cord is attached to the wall.
2. Secondly Check if the main power cord is firmly attached to the power supply.
3. Check reset switch is not got stuck by casing. If it is, press reset switch again to be released.
4. Remove all outer devices and external cables from your computer so that you can check one by one. Such as Keyboard, mouse, printer, digital camera, iPod etc. as well as all other external devices such as USB devices. After this step only Power cord and video monitor cord will be attached with computer.
5. check the monitor’s brightness and contrast button are well-functioned. Very often we see that our pc is ok but for the lack of brightness and contrast button setting correctly, we can not see any display.
6. Check if your monitor power is on or not. If it is off, on it.
After finishing all the steps, now try turning on your computer. Is it working now? Great! If not, let’s see what you should do next……..Internal Problems checking:
In this stage we will now check some internal problems. Now open your CPU casing with screw driver. we will need to remove everything that is not necessary for the computer to be turned on. Only the following things are important to turn on the computer.- Power supply
- Motherboard
- CPU cooler.
- One memory module
- One video card
- All ad-on cards( e.g ad-0n sound cards)
- Hard disk drives
- Optical disk drives
- Memory modules( the second)
- Second video card
When you perform the tasks notice the following things very carefully….
- Is the power supply delivering energy?
- Is the CPU fan spinning?
- Does you computer work for some time and shut down? Then it CMOS memory bad contact problem( it will be discussed later)
- Can you hear beep sound coming from the small speaker located in the case? If you do, it means that there are bad contact problems in Video card or memory modules. Or they are defective.
Checking Bad contacts Problems :
After completing all the stages stated above. if your computer doesn’t start , You will need to solve the bad contact problems of your computer. For this you will need Isopropyl alcohol/petrol, Eraser and a tooth-brush.
Now Remove the memory and the video card from the motherboard. Clean the edge contact of memory module and Video card with eraser as you are erasing them. Don’t touch the edge contacts with fingers. After rubbing with eraser, clean the memory module and video card with with the tooth brush wet in Isopropyl alcohol.

Socket and Pins cleaning: If you have an Intel CPU based sockets such as 775, 1155, 1156, 1366 and similar CPUs, you can use eraser to clean its contacts and then use tooth brush wet in isopropyl alcohol. If your motherboard use pins then you should not use eraser lest you should broke the pins. In this case use only toothbrush wet in isopropyl alcohol. see the images bellow you will get the full notion about these.

After cleaning the the parts, we need to clean their sockets on the mother board. Never use eraser on the motherboard.

Cleaning The CMOS Memory:
Now we will learn how to clean CMOS Memory. The CMOS memory is a small memory located on the mother board in charge of storing computer configurations. Generally it is done by changing the position of a jumper or by shorting two pads or two pins on the motherboard with a flat-tip screwdriver. In mother board you can see “Clear CMOS”, “CCMOS”, “CLRTC” written on it. See the Picture bellow:….
Image-1: Clear CMOS jumper(Change its position)
Image-2: Clear CMOS pins( Short them with Flat tip screwdriver)
Image-3: Clear CMOS pads (short them with flat trip screwdriver)
Please turn off you computer and remove the power cord from the wall. Move the position of the jumper, or short the tow pads or two pins with the screwdriver and hold it for two seconds. Now move the jumper back to its default position and turn on the computer again. Hope that you computer will turn on.If this steps doesn’t start your computer, you need to do the following two steps:
- Put all the parts of your computer back in place.
- Enter the mother board set up and reconfigure it.( Press F1 to enter setup and reconfigure it)
