"This app has been blocked for your protection"(solved) in windows 10

Welcome everybody from Patroblogger again. Windows 10 is now a buzzword in digital world. In the mean time probably all of us have upgraded our OS to windows 10 and might have stricken many problems such as " This app has blocked for your protection". This error happens in Windows 10 when users try to run .exe files to install programs / software. Solution has been given in details  to the similar error File System Error (-1073741819) in Windows 10. So, what happens is an error is displayed every time you try to install a new program on your computer. Running Exe file as administrator will not help you in no way. if this only happens on Installing and running D-link Modem then see my exclusive post to deal with this problem.

The user account control error message may be "This app has been blocked for your protection" and more information "An administrator has blocked you from running this app. Contact your administrator for more information."  As shown in the figure below.

App has been locked

Cause of The error Message "This app has been blocked for your protection"

As stated in the error message, "An administrator has blocked you from running this app. Contact your administrator for more information." But you could say that  I am the administrator or even tried to run the application as an administrator, but luck doesn't favor you a lot.

This is because, Windows 10 has a built-in admin account that blocks to install the application / program. This admin account is dimmed and disabled. We simply allow this application to be corrected, blocked by its protection error.

The real problem behind this error is the smart screen protection in Windows 10, which is activated by default. We can solve this problem enabling the administrator account and logging in to disable it. But there are more, we will share 3 different ways to solve this problem. Then let us begin.

The latest Method: Tweaking Local Group Policy

This the latest method which allows you to fix the error message "This app has been blocked for your Protection"

  1. Look for or type "Edit Group Policy" in windows search bar and click on the result or hit Enter.
  2. Click on Computer Configuration > Windows Settings (left pane).
  3. Now double Click on Security Settings (Right pane) and again double click on Local Policies.
  4. Double click on Security Options.
  5. Scroll down to bottom and find "User Account Control - Run all Administrators in admin approval mode".
  6. Double click on it, a small window will pop up with option "Disabled". Check it and Apply changes.
  7. Restart your PC.
In the above method we have disabled All administraror approval, so from now on you might be able to unlock your app you want to run on your PC.

Method 2: Enable Administrator Account

I think this should be the very first method to fix this issue. In this method we will take permission from the Built in Administrator by Microsoft. To take the permission follow the following method.

Step 1: To start the process open Command Prompt by Searching it from the search bar or click right button of keeping mouse on Start Button and Click on Command Prompt (Admin).

Step 2: Type in with correct space or gap as written in the bold line in quotation mark(".....")  or Copy this "net user administrator /active:yes" and paste in it and hit ENTER. You will see Command Completed Successfully just like below Picture.

Command Prompt

Step 3: Now Close Command Prompt and Click on Start button, Then Right Click on your User Account ( Located at Top Left ) then click Sign out.

Step 4: You will be promoted to log on screen, from here select or  log in to Administrator account that we activated in step 2.

Step 5: Now you are in the Administration area by Microsoft looking only Desktop. Now navigate the app or soft program containing .exe or install and run it. You will not see any complication to run it.

Step 6: So now you have Installed your Required Program, you will again need to Log in to your Regular User account and Disable the Administrator User account.

Step 7: Ok so now you should be logged in to your Regular account. Open Command prompt and type in "net user administrator /active:no" and hit Enter.

That's it, this should most probably solve this problem. But we have another 2 alternative way to adopt.

Method 3: Disable the "Smart Screen" from control panel

If you don't want enable to default Administrator account by Microsoft, You can follow this method.

  1. Search for Control Panel from search bar and Open it.
  2. Now from Control Panel search bar at right, Search for "Smartscreen"
  3. Click "Change Smart screen Settings" Under Security & Maintenance.
  4. Click on Security to see Drop Down Options.
  5. Scroll Down and Click "Change Settings" for Windows Smart screen.
  6. Now Select Don't do anything (Turn off Windows Smart screen) and Click OK.
Disable Smart Screen

So in this method we did the same thing just in a different way. Now try and Execute the File which was showing you This App Has Been Blocked For Your Protection. It must be gone for good now.

Method 4: Installing Program or soft through Command Prompt(Admin)

The  2 methods explained above should be sufficient to face this error in Windows 10, but you can still try this method.

Go to folder where the .exe file is located and causing errors. Suppose you are trying to run photoshop.exe and it is located in D:\Setup\photoshop.exe.

As in the previous example, you want to navigate to drive D, click the installation folder, do not open it. Hold Shift key and Right Click on "Setup" Folder, in the context menu you will see open Command Window here, click on it.

Command Prompt will pop up at the location D:\Setup. Now just type  photoshop.exe and press Enter, it will not be displayed the error message "This app has been blocked for your protection"
That's it. Dear readers I think all these method help you to fix the above issue efficiently.
